ABC Open TT Series - 2007-Sep-09 - 40km (Calabogie - Hwy 511) (EvtFactor= 0.9739)
Weather (08:00): Cloudy. Temperature: 10°C, Wind: light wind from the NE.
Thirty-two people arrived in Calabogie for a "real cool" (10 C) 40km time trial, and perhaps half of the pack thrived under the conditions, while the rest of us prefer something balmier. All but one rider finished. Erich Zappe had wheel problems and abandoned the event early. Fastest from the Almonte Bicycle Club, Les Humphreys had his best finish in 3 years in a time of 66:50. Nine of the twenty who had ridden an earlier ABC 40km TT in 2007 improved upon their earlier season/series 40km best, while eight improved upon their previous ATT 40km best. Denis Tang was the most improved in both of these regards, improving more than 13% in cube speed over his previous 40km best. Allen Cameron, out for his first forty this year, was the other rider who improved his 40km best cube-speed on this course by more than 10%. Of the women, only Wendy Blagdon improved, coming within eight seconds of first place woman Ellen Pazdzior. A special thanks to Bernard Durand who warmed up both our bodies and our spirits afterwards with coffee, banana bread and marvellous cookies (which were as healthy as they were tasty!). Bernard has run a catering business since 1990 - The Foodery, and we have been fortunate to benefit from his expertise a number of times.
